Description
The Union of Užhorod by Michael Lacko, S.J., Slovak Institute, 1966, 1976, is an English translation by the Reverend Joseph Gill, S.J. of Father Lacko’s magisterial study Unio Užhorodensis Ruthenorum Carpaticorum cum Ecclesia catholica published in Orientalia Christiana Analecta, 143, Rome, 1955, 2nd printing 1965.
That history presented the dramatic account of events that led to the union of sixty-three priests of the Mukachevo eparchy in the Kingdom of Hungary with the Catholic Church at the chapel of the castle of Ungvár (contemporary Uzhhorod) on April 24, 1646, which initiated several subsequent acts of union that, taken together, would lead to the birth of the Greek-Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo and the eparchies and Churches, sui iuris, derived from this Mother Church.
